Grinding drill bits

Drill bits - regardless of whether they are HSS drill bits or carbide drill bits - must be resharpened regularly to ensure optimum performance on drilling rigs. This naturally applies to drill bit systems with cooling channels as well as drill bit systems without cooling channels.

Cooling channel drills as HSS drills or carbide drills

The internal cooling channel is used for optimum tool cooling directly at the cutting edge. On modern drilling machines, a mixture of air and cooling lubricant is forced through the drill holes directly into the drill hole at high pressure. This mixture optimally reduces the dissipation of the extremely high frictional heat generated during the machining of steel profiles and steel plates.

Flat grinding with 170° to 175° point angle

Especially in steel construction and the steel trade, the common flat grinding with a point angle of 170° to 175° has been in demand for many years. Although the normal 118° point angle of HSS drills can also be used, it is less economical and is therefore rarely used in this market segment.

Regrinding HSS cooling channel drills

The regrinding of an HSS cooling channel drill is usually carried out at the customer's premises directly next to the drilling machine by the machine operator or in the tool dispenser on a suitable drill grinding machine. However, our customers are also happy to send the HSS cooling channel drills to the Nenok grinding service for regrinding.

Grinding the professional steel construction flat grinding with the point angle of 170° degrees and the centering point requires not only a suitable drill grinding machine, but also the appropriate experience of the machine operator.

Nenok HSS cooling channel drill grinding service

Don't wait until your drill bits have already annealed and the cutting edge area has broken out. Take advantage of our inexpensive grinding service to regrind or shorten your HSS cooling channel drills. Even if the cutting edge of a drill bit has broken off, it can be reground if there is sufficient remaining usable length. We grind HSS cooling channel drills in a diameter range from 10 mm to 50 mm.

Regrinding solid carbide drills and carbide cutting bodies

The regrinding of a solid carbide drill is also widely used and is offered by our grinding center partner with a new recoating. Solid carbide drills can also be reground without a new coating, but then the performance is somewhat limited due to the worn coating on the tool cutting edge. We are also happy to offer you the regrinding of carbide cutting bodies or carbide inserts of the Kennametal KSEM, Gühring HT800 and Hartner Multiplex drill tool systems.
